Green Screen is a Hit

Paying a Virtual Visit to Saskatchewan

The Experience Centre at the Saskatchewan Pavilion, featuring a monumental six-storey video dome, is filled with displays that toot Saskatchewan’s horn as a top-notch vacation destination, and as a world leader in agriculture, natural resources and technology.

So far, the biggest hit inside the Saskatchewan Experience Centre has been the Green Screen. As of Wednesday, February 24, over 6549 photographs have been taken, with 59% of them having already been downloaded.

The Green Screen uses iconic Saskatchewan imagery and a myriad of props, giving visitors a chance to create a customized memory of their visit to the Pavilion. Computer-generated backdrops include a golden wheat field, placid northern lake, Saskatchewan Roughriders game, Red Serge-clad Royal Canadian Mounted Police, pond hockey, and a potash mine deep below the ground.

Of all the props, an enormous trophy-sized walleye has been the star of the show, appearing not just with the northern lake background, but with the other backgrounds as well. The juxtaposition of these props and backgrounds, combined with the humour of the subjects, has created some memorable images.

Line-ups for the green screen have been steady from open until close. Despite the time in line, people have been content to wait for their opportunity, because as one young mother said, “A chance to try out a green screen doesn’t happen every day. It’s something you see used in the movies. It’ll make a great souvenir.”

The Green Screen is available at no cost, starting at 11 am daily.
