Paying Tribute to the Flame

By Gloria Weppler
At 4:52, the Olympic torch run hit Morse, Saskatchewan.

Many of our spectators were in the Community Hall enjoying the singing talents of The Hunters as the run was being set up on the outskirts of town. As we stepped out of the hall, we could see the flashing of lights down at the end of Main Street. The excitement began to build.

It was a lovely afternoon and we were all grateful that we had been so lucky to have this day to cheer the Flame on as it was carried through the town. As it passed the hall, many of our youths joined the entourage and ran behind them to the museum. There was a brief stop there as the anthem was sung and the torch continued on and out of town.

This event brought out the realization that, even though we can not all be in Vancouver cheering on the individual athletes, we did our part by paying tribute to the flame and sending it away with all of our best wished tucked inside it's little canister.
