Olympic Spirit Soaring in Swift Current

Thousands showed up for an unbelievably warm January evening in Swift Current, Saskatchewan.

There was entertainment, enthusiasm and energy as our community proudly welcomed the Olympic Torch carried by our own Katie Durant. Many people across the country are getting excited about the upcoming 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, and now Swift Current and southwest Saskatchewan have turned up that excitement. After tonight our Olympic spirit is soaring.

We are so proud of so many people including all the staff and volunteers who made this event in Swift Current possible. Local talents of all ages prepared the crowd for a night to remember and there is no doubt that southwest Saskatchewan loves their hometown talents. Deafening cheers could be heard for miles as the crowd showed their appreciation.

he Olympic Torch stage show was fantastic and it made us proud to be Canadian and proud to be Canadian ambassadors as we host Olympians from around the world. We are reminded of just how big the Olympic picture is, from our local community to our community nationwide. We are very thrilled to have been a part of it.

From Swift Current, we pass the torch onward. We will be sure to watch as the flame continues its journey across this amazing country to Vancouver and the 2010 Winter Olympic Games!
